The lab's blog
A lab that actually listens to its dentists — what does that change?
By Hadrien Mauve, co-founder of Opal Dental Lab · Clinical review: Dr Irina Visan, dental surgeon · 2026-08-17
Every laboratory says it listens to its practitioners, and most sincerely believe it. Yet you have probably lived the opposite: you flag the same problem twice, you get thanked warmly, and nothing moves. Listening, for a laboratory, is not answering the phone kindly. It is something changing after you have spoken.
Where our features come from
The 3D impression preview in the browser? A practitioner wanted to check his scan before confirming the order, not eight days later with the piece in hand. We built it. Cases arriving pre-filled from the scanner? Too much re-typing, too many copying errors. Built that too. The messaging thread attached to each order, the mobile app, the production route visible before you confirm: every time, it started with an irritated dentist who took two minutes to tell us what was wrong. Good. That is the most useful feedback we can get.
We build our tools ourselves. When a request is justified, it ships within weeks — no vendor to convince, no "next major release" to wait for. Nothing heroic about it: the path between your remark and its fix is short because we wanted it short.
How feedback travels here
When you write on an order, your message reaches the technician who has the piece in hand, with the impression, the order form and your photos already in front of them. Nobody takes a message, nobody relays. And when a piece comes back, we do not just redo it: we look for where the problem was born and what would have prevented it, because a remake you learn nothing from will come back. Requests that come up from several practitioners become next month's roadmap.
What it changes for you
Practitioners who speak well of their laboratory often use the same word: a team. And the test of a team is the error. A lab error, whoever is at fault, is one you pay for — in chair time, in a patient to rebook, in an explanation to give. Our approval flow exists so that this moment comes as rarely as possible; the rest, we build with you. An ambiguous label, a screen that wastes your time, a missing tool? Write to us. That is how this product got built, remark by remark — and it is not finished.
